For fresh and cold chain products, top-coated thermal or PP faces are preferred against moisture and fogging; freezer-grade adhesive is used for frozen products, while coated paper or kraft with permanent adhesive may be sufficient for dry foods. On oily packaging, the resistance of the adhesive and face to oil is assessed; for applications involving direct food contact, material selection is handled on a project-specific basis.
Food labels typically include fields for product name, ingredients, net quantity, production and use-by dates, batch number, storage conditions, manufacturer details and barcode. Leaving blank areas for variable data such as dates and batch numbers and printing them on a thermal transfer printer is a practical method.
