Thermal Transfer Ribbons
Ribbon choice depends on the label face and the conditions the label will meet. Wax Ribbon is an economical, widely used solution for coated and matte paper labels; Wax/Resin Ribbon gives more abrasion-resistant print on paper as well as synthetic faces such as PP; Resin Ribbon is the most resistant of the three to chemicals and heat on synthetic and metallized labels.
All ribbon types are used with thermal transfer printers; direct thermal labels need no ribbon. The ribbon can be wound ink side in or ink side out, so it is important to know your printer's winding type. You specify the ribbon width, length in meters, core diameter and quantity; choosing a ribbon slightly wider than the label protects the print head.
